Vishnu Sakharam Khandekar

The first Marathi literary recipient of the 'Dnyanpeeth' award!

Vishnu Sakharam Khandekar is a leading novelist in Marathi literature, popularly known as a popular writer. He has written a novel with a novel in such a variety of literature as a story, poetry, short essay, review, movie-play, drama, textbooks, translations. He also made a mark in the field of newspaper writing and book-editing.

He was well-known for his contribution to literature from Kumar, due to his Marathi teacher and introduction to literary works like 'Bal Kavi', 'Ram Ganesh Gadkari', 'Achyutra Kolhatkar'. They had a hobby to read religious literature because of Gadkari. Shreepad Krishen Kolhatkar suggested that Khandekar should have a good humor and write poetic nature, then he suggested that he should write about the mixture of these two people; Khandekar found a story writer hiding himself. He was also famous in Maharashtra as the best speaker.

As a novelist, he has gained immense popularity in Maharashtra and beyond Maharashtra since his pre-independence days. He wrote the first novel 'Hriday Ki Hawk' in 1930. Afterwards, one of his many novels such as 'Kanchanmarg' (1931), 'Two Dhruv' (1934), 'Green Chhaa', 'Two Manes' (1938), 'Rikma Devhara' (1939), 'First Love' (1940) Has been published. He wrote a series of short stories, such as collections of 35 collections, 10 short stories collection, Goff and Gofan. He also wrote stories of popular movies like 'Shadow', 'Jwala', 'Amrit', 'Deva', 'Maan Bal'.

He took Kolhatar and Gadkari from the inheritance, plagiarism, imagination. He has shown the idealism of the middle class people, the sadness of common people, his idealism, and his main role in his stories and novels. His protagonist is a well-known, socially respected person. In this gradual changing social situation, this kind of idealism was the mental need of middle-class youth. So Khandekar became the most popular writer of the day. His novel Crunchchadh (1942) also became popular. Yayati (1959), Amrutvel (1967), is one of the most widely publicized novels of the post-independence period. Yayati received the Sahitya Akademi Award for 1960.

The Indian government honored him with the Padma Bhushan in 1968. Shivaji University of Kolhapur D. D. Lit. (Doctor of Literature). In 1974, he was conferred with the highest honors of Dnyanpeeth award by the Indian Dnyaipith. His stories and novels have also produced films and television series in many languages. His literature has been translated into other Indian languages ​​and also in foreign languages.

'Rupakkatha' is a donation given to Khandekar by Marathi story. He made these statements through his stories about his life philosophies and ideals. These are the myths in this collection of wrought flowers (1948). Khandekar has served the mother tongue by writing so many different types of exemplary, exemplary and yet good quality, and by that the language has contributed significantly to Marathi literature. Most importantly, by getting the Jnanpith award, he created consciousness and self-confidence among the Marathi writers and literates.
