Maharshi Karve was born in Sherwali in Ratnagiri district. He was interested in social work by his teacher, Soman Master. Their English three editions were educated in Murud. He went to Mumbai's Robert Money High School for further education. He received scholarships in the fifth, sixth and seventh grades. From the time they are in school, they are teaching. His math was known to teach. In 1884 B. A. He was the first in mathematics among the students. The program of teaching them started at four in the morning. After returning home, he would teach his wife Radhabai at night. After Radhabai's death, he decided to remarry if he had to remarry. He married his friend Narharpant's widow, Godubai. (This godabai was Pandita Ramabai's widow and widow of Sharda Sadan.)

In 1891, he started teaching mathematics at Fergusson College. For the next 23 years, he worked as a teacher in Ferguson. In order to promote remarriage of widows, they established the 'Widow Marriage Prevention Preventionist Party'. The interest of the funds of this organization was used to help the widow of the remarriage. On 1 January 1899, he started the work of 'Anaath Balikshram' in Pune. (This organization was later known as Hingo Women's Education Institute. Today this organization is known as Maharishi Karve Female Education Society.) In the year 1900, Maharshi Karve built a hut for the ashram near Hingena near Pune. Here he started the work of women's education. In 1907, he founded the 'Women's School'. In this school, training of topics like child care, health, home science etc. were given to the women. According to the changing times and needs, Karve further improved his teaching and curriculum. M Gandhi, Swatantryaveer Savarkar, Pt. Nehru, such a number of prominent leaders praised the work of Maharshi Karve by visiting Hingna.

After retiring from Fergusson College in 1914, he was given full time to the ashram and women's school. In 1916, he founded the Women's University on the lines of Japan. This is considered as the first women's university in India. Karve of this University College became the first Principal. The next year the teachers who trained the teacher were added to the school. [The university was named after 'Mrs. Nathibai Damodar Thackersey University] (SNDT University). The medium of education in this university was Marathi. But English special education, nurse training, etc. were also taught in the university.

Having decided to give more attention to the education of women in the village, he set up an organization named 'Maharashtra Gram Primary Education Board'. With the objective of eliminating untouchability in equality, he formed equality team in 1944 with the help of three hundred collaborators. In order to get the activists actively working for established organizations, they started establishing the organization 'Nishkam Karmamath' which was started at the beginning.

Having decided to give more attention to the education of women in the village, he set up an organization named 'Maharashtra Gram Primary Education Board'. With the objective of eliminating untouchability in equality, he formed equality team in 1944 with the help of three hundred collaborators. In order to get the activists actively working for established organizations, they started establishing the organization 'Nukkam Karmamath' which was started at the beginning.

The scholars of Albert Einstein, Madame Montessori, and Rabindranath Tagore honored his work. Banaras Hindu University felicitated him with honorary degree in 1942. In 1955, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan by honoring him. In the year 1986, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian honor, in the 100th year of age.

Maharshi Karve also known as 'Anna' by Maharashtra. Every moment Anna, who lives for the service of society, has lived a life of 105 years.
